20th July 2010
Courchevel will stage its annual summer ski jumping contest for the 20th year in August. Once again the world’s best ski jumpers will be in resort for the summer ski jumping World Cup competition, but for the first time members of the general public are being invited to try ski jumping too, on a special created artificial surface ski slope.
The new 10 metre hill adds to Courchevel’s existing 25, 60, 90 and 120m hills, so there is plenty to progress on to for anyone who gets hooked after their free trial. The ski hill’s are at Courchevel’s Olympic park in Le Praz, a legacy from the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympic events staged here.
Free ski jump try out sessions for the general public are from 1 – 3pm on Thursday the 12th of August and from 4 to 5.30pm on lucky Friday the 13th of August.
The Courchevelsummer world cup is part of a three stage contest that begins the weekend before at Hinterzarten in Germany and ends the following weekend at Einsiedien in Switzerland.
Most of the world’s best ski jumpers will be taking part including Switzerland’s Simon Amman, Finland’s Harri Olli, Poland’s Adam Malysz and Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer and Thomas Morganstern.
The Courchevel contest is part of a full weekend of entertainment including air displays and live music acts.
